Mikaila is a municipal planner and a graduate of the Master of Community Planning program at Vancouver Island University. Her desire to implement change at a community level drew her to the field of planning, where she is committed to helping communities become more equitable, happy, and healthy.
Mikaila developed skills in social planning and community engagement in her work in the non-profit world, which has ranged from advocacy in educational settings to community-based research, where she coordinated projects on housing needs, homelessness, climate change and gender equity.
Mikaila has worked on a range of planning projects, supporting B.C. municipalities with policy development, Official Community Plans, Development Permit Areas, Neighbourhood Plans, planning for economic and social development, and communications and engagement strategies.
Growing up in Portland, Oregon and living in on Vancouver Island, Mikaila is an enthusiast of urban cities and the outdoors, and loves to learn about our relationship with the natural and built environment.
I recognize with gratitude that I am living and learning on the unceded Coast Salish territory of the Lekwungen speaking peoples, the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
